Playing VTs out on Shock TV shows
Do not follow this guide until the rest of Studio 2 is set-up ready for a TV show.
For Shock TV you might wish to play packages out during a programme.
For this you will need ‘ShockTop 1’ - one of our laptops (the keyholder on shift will be able to get this for you). The password is ‘4590’.
The laptop will need to be plugged in to the ATEM & the Axia Mixing Desk.
The ATEM connection is a black and blue HDMI cable
The Axia connection is a black USB labelled ‘OFFICE USB IN’.
Make sure the speaker output is set to ‘USB Audio Codec’ in the windows settings.
DataVideo DPO-100 is our VT playout software.
When you open DPO-100, it will look like this:
On the left hand side you will see ‘Playlists’ - these are running orders for shows. Some shows will already have a playlist connected, these should already have title sequences etc. loaded in.
If your show doesn’t have a playlist, you will need to create a new one.
Do this by clicking the plus icon at the top right of the ‘Playlist’ column.
It will bring up this screen:
You can then give your playlist a name - make this the name of your show.
To add ‘persistent’ assets - assets which will be used every episode click the add movie icon.
You will then be able to select a file.
Once you have added all your persistent assets, click ‘Save’.
To load a playlist into the player, click the green arrow next to the pencil icon
Your show’s persistent assets will then load into the player
To add packages for this show click the add movie icon above the ‘playlist controls’ window.
You will then be able to select a file.
If you need to change the order of packages or delete one, you can use the up arrow, down arrow or red X displayed next to each package.
Please note that if you add packages here, they will be removed from the software when you close it.
If the output of DPO-100 isn’t showing up on the ATEM multiview, click the ‘HDMI’ button directly beneath the ‘On Air’ light.
It should then find the ATEM which will turn the ‘On Air’ light RED and the box beneath the HDMI button should say ‘HDMI Connected’.
Make sure you have clicked ‘Single Clip Mode’.
The playout controls are at the top left of the screen. With play, previous, next and stop.
By default playout will start at the top of the playlist, to start from another place click the ‘CUE’ button beneath the package number.
To play a package, simply click the play button, or use the space bar.
If a package will not play, or is showing up with a red error message, it means it has been exported incorrectly. Please make sure you are exporting in H.264 1080p (or 1080i) in 25, 30, 50 or 60 frames per second.
