This guide assumes you have Studio 2 TV training and are familiar with our Outside Broadcast mixing desks.
Guide for the OB MIXER HERE & S2 TV SET UP HERE
We recommend setting the mixer up on the white cabinet on the adjoining wall between the two studios. The audio technician for the live recording should sit in the studio and monitor the output directly from the OB desk.
We also recommend using the smaller OB mixer - not the one mounted in the OB cabinet as it takes up too much space in the studio.
Use the two XLR ‘MAIN OUTPUTS’ on the back of the mixing desk.
Connect them to the two ‘EXTERNAL MIXER’ inputs on the patch box beneath the studio TV - these are inputs 5 & 6. The patch box looks like this:
Make sure the Left & Right channels are matched up properly between the mixer and the patch box.
Choose an unused fader on the active gallery Axia console.
Press the ‘OPTIONS’ dial at the top of the fader. This will bring up a menu on the fader screen.
Using the ‘OPTIONS’ dial - select ‘SOURCE’.
Scroll until you find ‘S2 EXT MIXER’ and select it.
You can now use this like any other fader.
You may also wish to make a backup recording to a laptop using the mixer’s USB output (e.g. in Audacity).
This is optional and should not replace the main Studio 2 set-up process.
The small OB mixer, mic stands, and XLR cables are stored in the Tech Cupboard.
Please return all equipment after the session.
Access to the Tech Cupboard is by permission of the keyholder on shift.
