Studio 2 Pre Recording Quick Start Guide
These steps are for recording an audio only radio show straight into Zetta.
Do not follow these steps for recording a podcast or TV show.
This guide assumes you have already been trained on live broadcasting in Zetta. If you require further help, ask the keyholder on shift
The Studio 2 Axia Desk has 3 profiles: ‘A: On Air’, ‘B: Record’ & ‘C: Shock TV’.
Here is what the desk might look like when you arrive:
We can see that profile C (Shock TV) is selected.
To change this, press the ‘PROFILE’ button - it will light up.
Turn the ‘STUDIO’ dial to select ‘B: Record’ on the control display.
Press down on the ‘STUDIO’ dial to select the profile.
The desk should then look like this:
You will notice that the fader lights on the Axia Desk inside the studio will turn on or change - this shows that this desk is now in control of Studio 2 and you are ready to record.
The Axia Desk in the studio should now look like this:
For radio content in Studio 2, we use Audiotechnica AT2035 broadcast microphones.
There are three microphones in this studio, from right-to-left these are: ‘Pres Mic’, ‘Mic 2’ & ‘Mic 3’.
Pres Mic and Mic 2 are on mic arms, Mic 3 is on a desk stand.
Please speak into the flat edge of the microphone, with the label facing towards you.
DO NOT TALK INTO THE LOGO - turn the mic muff around if you need to, but make sure you don’t turn the microphone itself.
Push the faders for the microphones being used all the way to the top, and make sure they are switched on:
On the ‘Studio 2 Playout PC’ (the left hand computer) Zetta should already be open.
If it is not, click this icon:
Username: S2 | Password: zetta2
Once Zetta is open, the screen should look like this:
Navigate to the date and time of your show by clicking the date on top right of the log window, and using the calendar to select the date your show will air.
Then use the time selector at the top of the log window to select your show time.
This will open your log, from here you can add songs, or move things around.
Voice tracking is where you record individual links rather than the whole show.
To start a voice track, select one of the ‘Empty Voice Track Slot’ entries.
⚠️ If no Empty voice track slots exist, you can create one by selecting the song you want to talk before, and selecting the record button.
Then click the red and white ‘record’ button on the top rail (circled in this image)
This will bring up the voice-track interface:
You can see three tracks. The top is the song you are talking out of, the middle is your recording track, and the bottom shows the song you are talking into
Move the blue cursor to where in the track you would like to start talking.
Then click the record button to start the recording.
You should hear your own voice and the sound of the track you are talking out of in your headphones.
You can click the record button again to cue the start of the next track so you can talk over the intro.
When you are finished. Click the stop button, this will bring up the ‘Segue Editor’:
From this screen, you can move any of the three tracks around to change what time they will come in - it acts like Adobe Audition or Audacity.
Once you have finished, make sure to click the save button in the top left-hand corner.
This will close the segue editor, you can re-open this at any time, by selecting your voice track and clicking the ‘Segue’ button at the top of the log, it looks like this:
Once saved, your voice track will play automatically as part of the log at its scheduled time.
When your whole show is finished, please place the headphones back where you found them.
The Axia Desk can stay in profile B (Record Mode) ready for the next user.
“I can’t hear through the headphones”:
Adjust headphone volume using the monitoring panel on the Axia Desk, make sure it looks like this - with the correct buttons illuminated:
Use the ‘HEADPHONES’ dial to turn the headphone volume up or down.
If it is still too quiet, or you and your co-presenter want different volumes in your headset - there is a headphone amp just underneath the desk.
It has four dials:
Dial 1: Presenter Headphones
Dial 2: Guest 2 Headphones
Dial 3: Guest 3 Headphones
Adjust these until you are comfortable.
Follow exactly the same steps as above. Just be aware that the ‘Zetta A & B’ faders are live, so do not switch them off.
After pre-recording in Studio 1 ALWAYS return the desk back to “A: SR-1-TX”
