Axia Left
In Studio 1, we have a pair of Axia consoles, we use these for controlling the presenter mics, as well as Zetta.
The console on the left has the 4 presenter microphones, in addition to a "Internet PC" fader and a "Studio 2 program" feed. When presenting a show the mic fader should be pushed all the way up to ensure everyone can hear you correctly, and brought back down when you do not want to be heard. The red lights above the mic, and around the room signal that a mic is now live. The music coming from the speakers will also cut out to prevent feedback.
If there a show going on in S2 that should be broadcasting On-Air, ensure nothing else is playing out on zetta, and push the "S2 PGM" fader all the way up, for visualised shows click the "Studio 2" button on the streamdeck (Studio Visualisation). This will broadcast the TV Studio feed to mixcloud.
Axia Right
The console on the right has the Zetta faders, in addition to "Hotkey" and "Audtion" faders. You can use the button labelled "Next" to go to the next item in the Zetta log. To find a more in depth explanation of these faders visit the "Zetta" Page.
This console also has controls to change the Headphone & Studio Speaker volume, if you cannot here anything in the headphones, please ensure the dial labelled "Headphones" has not been turned down.
The connection is USB-A - you will need an adapter for USB-C devices.
On your laptop, set your audio output to USB Codec/USB Audio (wording may vary by device).
Use the 'PREVIEW' button on the 'USB' fader to test audio before playing it on air.
In Studio 1 the USB fader is labelled ‘USB’.
In Studio 2 it is labelled ‘S2 USB’.
Frequent Problems
These steps act as a refresher, not a replacement for studio training.
If you need help, ask the keyholder on Shift.
“The desk isn’t set up properly/faders are missing”
The best way to solve this is by resetting the desk profile.
To do this press the ‘PROFILE’ button on the right-hand side of the right-hand desk - it will light up as shown here:
Turn the ‘STUDIO’ dial to select ‘A: SR-1-TX’ on the control display.
Press down on the ‘STUDIO’ dial to select the profile.
This will reset the desk and make sure everything is set up correctly for a live broadcast.
In Studio 1, you have the ability to play vinyl records using our turntable. Please follow these instructions carefully and remember that the turntable is delicate and should be handled carefully.
The turntable can play 33rpm & 45rpm records - make sure the right setting is selected.
⚠️ If a record looks damaged please don’t play it!
Records MUST be cleaned before they are played!
There is a cleaning kit stored on the shelf above the turntable.
Putting the turntable on air:
Make sure the amplifier on the shelf is switched ON and tuned to the input labelled ‘TURNTABLE’/’PHONO’. It should look like this:
If the input is not set to ‘TURNTABLE’ turn the ‘INPUT SELECTOR’ dial until you reach the correct input.
On the left-hand Axia desk use the fader labelled ‘Turntable’.
Place the fader all the way up, and make sure it is turned on.
If you want to preview a record, make sure the fader is down then click the ‘PREVIEW’ button.
The DJ Decks sit next to the record player and should already be connected to the Axia mixing desk.
You will need to connect your own laptop to the decks before using them, and have your playlists pre-loaded.
We recommend ‘Serato’ as the DJ software you should use - but other software should work as well.
The Decks will come in on the ‘DJ’ fader.
