a. The student group, society or sport, shall be called Shock Radio and TV; an organisation within the Students’ Union.
a. The aims and objectives of the group shall be:
i. To offer fellow societies a regular platform & a voice to promote the work they are doing.
ii. To support Salford SU by being present at events, providing music & broadcasting live.
iii. To be visible on Campus, not just around our base at University House but in other buildings & MediaCity.
iv. To educate our members on their next steps within the media & audio industries - through events and workshops as well as continuing training.
v. To truly represent the student body at Salford, and ensure all society members feel included, represented and supported.
vi. To ensure we remain a fully dual medium society - with students being encouraged to pursue both audio & video
production.
These aims and objectives are to be discussed and developed with support of the Student Opportunities Coordinator.
a. Membership of the group is open to all University of Salford Students, Alumni, Staff.
i. Current students at the University of Salford must make up at least 80% of the membership
ii. No more than 20% of the membership can be made up of staff and Alumni
iii. The Union reserves the right to set a membership quota to ensure the sustainability of your group.
b. Students’ Union Student Officers are considered honorary members of the group, however, retain no voting rights and cannot stand on committees or take other leadership roles.
c. All groups which are full societies or sports clubs of the Union will charge a membership fee, of which part will be contributed to the Union to assist running and insurance costs. Union staff will determine the minimum amount and contribution amount.
d. The committee with the final vote from the Chairperson retains the right to remove someone from the society with the approval of the SU, with evidence of why this person should be removed. These processes can be found in AGM and EGM documents. Shock Radio and TV is a diverse society open to all students, staff and alumni. Bullying of any kind is not allowed, harassment of any member whether it be verbal, physical, sexual, visual or gender is not allowed.
e. All memberships expire on the 31st July, unless stated otherwise e.g. trimester only memberships.
a. All paid members of the group may take advantage of all the activities and privileges arranged for the group. Only paid members may conduct business on behalf of the group, and only paid University of Salford student members can vote for or hold official positions.
i. This does not apply to Alumni and Staff members, who do not have access to BUCS fixtures and individual championships.
b. Non-members may be admitted to the meetings and functions of the group at the discretion of the committee, but they shall not enjoy the privileges of full members.
c. Committee members are not excluded from the requirement of purchasing membership
a. The committee shall be made up of at least five members fulfilling the following roles:
i. Chairperson
ii. Secretary
iii. Treasurer
iv. Wellbeing & Inclusion
v. Head of Tech & Production
All members must adhere to the specific guidelines for their roles
b. The committee will be responsible for arranging a programme of activities compatible with the aims and objectives of this Constitution and incurring expenditure to this end only. All members of the committee are equal, and any activity put on by the committee must be inclusive for all paid members.
c. All committee members retain equal and independent voting rights.
d. All committee members are considered volunteer elected officers, and as such should adhere to the Elected Officers Code of Conduct.
e. All committee members are bound by the SU Code and Conduct for Members.
f. All committee positions run from 1st June 2025 through to 31st May 2026.
i. The end date for committee members remains the same regardless of when the committee member took post.
a. The Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the group shall take place during Trimester 2 of each year when all the general business will be transacted. At this meeting, current officers will report on the past year’s development and finances.
b. Date, time, location of the AGM should be announced to SU and the group’s members at least two weeks prior to the meeting, in accordance with the AGM guidelines.
a. The group shall have a committee of elected paid members. These are to be elected in Trimester 2 after the AGM in accordance with the election by-laws, AGM guide.
b. Further guidance on elections will be given by the Student Opportunities department.
c. Committee members elected in the main Semester 2 elections will take post on 1st September of the next academic year. They will be expected to respond to any communication from the Student Opportunities department before they take post.
d. Details of the date nominations open and close must be given to members at least two weeks before voting takes place. This should include guidance on how people can nominate themselves, how members can vote, and any additional support candidates need.
e. All positions are to be voted on by paid student members of the group.
f. Following the election, the departing committee must give a handover to the newly elected committee before leaving their post.
a. A committee member may be removed from office and a by-election held if:
i. They resign. This must be done through writing, submitted to the Student Opportunities email: su-societies@salford.ac.uk
ii. They cease to be an ordinary member of the Union.
iii. A formal complaint is submitted which will then be investigated by the SU, following an investigation in which a member is removed from position, in accordance with Union policy and by-laws.
a. Extraordinary General Meetings (EGM) may be called at any time by the committee or by written request of 20% of the paid student members. The exact nature of business to be transacted must be stated by the Secretary of the group in the meeting agenda.
i. Not less than two working days’ notice shall be given to paid members of the group and SU in official notices and such notice shall include the business to be considered, the time, the date and the place of the meeting.
ii. Meetings must take place in accordance with the EGM guidelines and associated Union by-laws.
a. Committee meetings shall be called by the Chair or 4 other committee members. The Secretary is to inform each committee member of the date, time and venue of the meeting at least two working days in advance.
b. The Students’ Union Student officers may attend any meeting and support the society, at the discretion of the society committee, however, shall not have the right to partake in any vote(s).
a. The quorum for the A.G.M is 50% of the group membership, of which University of Salford students must make up 90%.
b. The quorum for an E.G.M. shall be 50% of the group’s members, of which University of Salford students must make up 90%.
c. The quorum for Committee members shall be three, at least one of whom should be the Chairperson, Treasurer, Secretary, or Wellbeing Officer.
d. There shall be no quorum for other meetings or activities.
a. All student groups are subject to review and guidance by the Societies and Sports Student Executive, and by default, Union Council.
b. Grant Funding Applications submitted by student groups are allocated by the Societies and Sports Student Executive, with Student Opportunities Coordinators support.
a. The group is not to have an affiliation to any outside body without prior consent of the Union. This includes sponsorship contacts and external partners, both financial and otherwise.
a. The group must go through all relevant health & safety and risk management training and adhere to any health and safety measures the Union requests.
b. All activities require 1 qualified first aider per 30 members.
a. The group shall have one finance account which is maintained with the Union in trust of the sports and societies.
b. Any group found to have an external finance account will be subject to disciplinary procedures by SU, up to and including liquidation and disaffiliation.
c. If a group ceases operation, their finance account will be held for two academic years for other students who wish to restart the group. After this, the account will be reviewed by the Union and the funds released to a group fund.
a. Committee members must attend all mandatory training sessions organised by the SU.
b. Failure to complete any mandated training will result in the suspension of group activities.
a. The only amendments which can be made to this constitution are to the group name, and the aims and objectives.
b. All amendments must have approval from the majority of the committee
c. Any amendments after initial affiliation must be approved by a Student Opportunities Coordinator
d. The Coordinator has the right to disagree with an amendment.
